Meet Meowgon Spengler.

 Are you looking for a black kitten to adopt? But you don’t want to encourage irresponsible non-neutering pet owners? Well, I’m as angry with them as you are! And here’s a very young kitten in the Edison, New Jersey area. 

This (6 week old?) kitten was yelping and yowling for almost half an hour outside my place’s basement window at 11 pm last night.

After a mad dash out to a store to get kitten-milk and flea spray (even though she seems to have no fleas!), I settled in with Meowgon Spengler, and got some kitten milk into her. She’s actually really good about keeping her claws retracted already, a little skittish, but if she’s a feral, I sure can’t tell. 

And then today, when I called the Edison Animal Shelter? The refused to take her. 

“we don’t have a nursing mother right now. and the shelter’s not staffed 24-7, for feedings…. better put it back out there, the parent will come find it, probably.”

“I live next to a major thoroughfare - it’ll be kitten pancake by tonight!”

“yeah, well, it’s survived its entire life out there so far, right?”

“uhm…”

sigh, underfunded shelters. 

I want to put a few “found kitten” signs up. “Some major asshole failed to spay his or her cat - this is your chance to get a found 6 week old kitten. Note: if you prefer your kittens in road-pancake form, as the original owners obviously did, give it another day or two, I’m sure it’ll be road pizza by then. If you want a color other than black, I suspect the rest of the lister might already be road-pancaked, but you’ll have to search for them yourself. Thanks, irresponsible asshole owners of the parent cats!”
